Which Luxury Electric Vehicle Best Fits Your Needs?

The luxury electric SUV market is fiercely competitive, but two vehicles are often mentioned as compelling choices: the Genesis Electrified GV70 and the Tesla Model Y.

To help drivers navigate the difficult buying process, we’ll be comparing each premium electric SUV across a variety of categories, including interior, technology, safety features, additional complimentary services and benefits, and more.

Performance and Driving Dynamics

When selecting a luxury electric SUV, it is crucial to consider whether you enjoy the driving experience that it offers. After all, a powerful, responsive vehicle can be significantly more exciting to drive.

The Electrified GV70 offers a thrilling driving experience: it is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and its motor produces 320 kW, which is equivalent to about 429 horsepower. Additionally, drivers may engage Boost Mode for a maximum 483 horsepower for up to 10 seconds–perfect for situations that would benefit from a burst of extra power. Drivers may also use regenerative braking control paddle shifters to tailor the level of deceleration and energy recuperation, further enhancing the driving experience.

While Tesla does not disclose the Model Y’s horsepower, they claim that the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive can reach 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds – a figure that is impressive, but lags behind the Electrified GV70. Additionally, the Model Y offers regenerative braking but requires drivers to control its settings from the infotainment system, making the feature difficult to adjust based on current driving conditions.

Range and Charging Capabilities

With a maximum range of 380 km, the Electrified GV70 is well-suited for frequent use. In fact, those who drive 20,000 km/year will only need to charge their Electrified GV70 about once per week. Additionally, due to its rapid charging support, the Electrified GV70 can recharge from 10-80% in merely 18 minutes using a 350 kW Level 3 charger.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive offers an estimated range of about 526 km. Tesla claims that the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive can recharge enough for approximately 253 km of travel in 15 minutes when using select Tesla Superchargers.

Regardless of vehicle, drivers can opt for an at-home charging station or use one of many public charging stations, making it easy to recharge as you go about your day.

Interior Comfort

The Electrified GV70 offers a luxurious interior filled with high-quality materials. The vehicle caters to driver and passenger comfort, featuring standard leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, 3-Zone Climate Control, and Smart Posture Care functionality. Drivers seeking an even more refined driving experience can explore available details, including Nappa leather seats and microfiber suede trim detailing.

While the Electrified GV70 prioritizes luxury, the Model Y prefers technology-driven minimalism. The Model Y's cabin is sleek, but its lack of buttons and physical controls in favour of screens results in a less tactile driving experience–and make it harder for the driver to adjust settings while on the road. Like the Electrified GV70, the Model Y features heated rear seats, ambient lighting, and a sunroof. However, its seats are made of faux leather, which may be a deal-breaker for many.

Technology and Connectivity

The Electrified GV70 boasts a stunning 14.5" HD infotainment display and a Fingerprint Authentication System that allows drivers to start their vehicle with an authorized scan. An available Head-Up Display projects important information onto the windshield, keeping drivers informed while minimizing potential distractions. Additionally, an available Lexicon premium audio system with Quantum Logic Surround sound, 15 High Efficiency speakers, and a Lexicon 14 digital external amplifier provides an incredible experience for discerning audiophiles. Furthermore, all new Genesis vehicles come with a 5-year complimentary subscription to Genesis Connected Services, which allows drivers to remotely start their vehicle, access real-time diagnostics, and more.

The Model Y comes standard with a 15.4" infotainment screen that is used to control most vehicle settings and an 8" second-row screen. However, some drivers may find it distracting to use the infotainment system for simple tasks, such as adjusting windshield wipers. Additionally, while the Model Y offers some potentially useful connectivity features such as Sentry Mode–which allows drivers to remotely monitor their car’s surroundings–these features are restricted to Premium Connectivity subscribers. Tesla offers Model Y owners a 30-day Premium Connectivity trial, which starkly contrasts Genesis’ 5-year complimentary Connected Services access period. The Model Y also lacks native support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both of which come standard on the Electrified GV70.

Safety Features and Driver Assistance

Safety is a top priority when purchasing any vehicle. Fortunately, both the Electrified GV70 and the Model Y are equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies.

The Electrified GV70 comes standard an array of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), and Highway Driving Assist II. Additionally, in 2025, the Electrified GV70 received a prestigious Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), underscoring its exceptional safety design.

Like the Electrified GV70, the Model Y is equipped with a variety of ADAS, including Forward Collision Warning, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Avoidance.

Warranty and Additional Services

Premium vehicles should offer a premium ownership experience. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the warranty and support that each electric SUV comes with.

Genesis provides a high-quality ownership experience with our complimentary 5-Year Care Plan, which offers the following benefits:

  • Complimentary scheduled maintenance appointments (5-years/100,000 km)
  • At-home valet service and courtesy loaner vehicle access for scheduled maintenance appointments (5-years/100,000 km, within 50 km of dealership)
  • Comprehensive Limited Warranty coverage (5-years/100,000 km)
  • Access to Genesis Connected Services (5 years)
  • 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance (5 years)

Further, the Electrified GV70 is covered by an EV System Warranty and High Voltage Battery Capacity Coverage for the first 8 years or 160,000 km. Ultimately, these benefits provide a luxurious, worry-free ownership experience.

In contrast, Tesla offers a 4-year/80,000 km Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty, providing a shorter coverage period than Genesis. The company also provides an 8-year/160-192,000 km Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty (mileage depending on trim). However, beyond warranty, Tesla offers few services. New Model Y cars come with a 30 day trial for Premium Connectivity, but this pales compared to Genesis’ 5 years of complimentary Connected Services access.

Overall Value Proposition: Genesis Electrified GV70 vs. Tesla Model Y

The Electrified GV70 and Model Y each present their own advantages, making it impossible to definitively state which premium electric SUV is superior. However, the Electrified GV70’s quick acceleration and dynamic handling make for an engaging driving experience, while drivers and passengers alike will appreciate its comfortable, technology-laden interior. Additionally, its IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation provides peace of mind. On the other hand, the Model Y’s screen-driven interface may be frustrating for many drivers and Tesla’s lack of complimentary services might result in a less luxurious ownership experience.
